Growing up education was something wished they had but either couldn’t afford it or didn’t have the opportunity to be in a learning environment. Deciding to continue my education is the best decision that I’ve ever made in my life. I decided that I really wanted to continue my education after the passing of my father, I couldn’t think of any other way that I can make him and my mother proud of me. The idea of me continuing my education is more than making my parents proud of me, but for me to have a great future. My parents didn’t have the opportunity to have a great education. They were born and raised in Somalia, they didn’t have a lot of money and they know that if they were to stay in Somalia that their kids would have the same childhood and they didn’t want that so my mom took us to Egypt where we were able to go to school.
The schools in Egypt aren’t as easy as the schools in America. They were so different in the way that they teach the kids and how you are treated. It was hard on my mom to pay for the three of us, me being the youngest one I stayed home until I was in eight years old due to schools being so expensive and my mother not having all that money. When my siblings would come home, I would try to read their books, try to understand the materials that they were being taught, because I knew how important education was. When we moved to America and was told that education is free I knew that I was going to get the education that I really needed. They placed me in sixth grade and went from there. When we moved they allowed us to start school as well as my brother, but my sister told her that it was too old to be placed in high school and she was 17 years old. She didn’t allow anybody to deny her education, she filled a law suite and she won’t but they told her that she would start in eight grade, she refused to be placed that low so she left education and got herself a job. Seeing how education is a big deal I knew that as soon as I got the opportunity that I would never let it go to waste. These are some of the reasons that I wished to continue my education.
My name is Farhio Farah it’s pronounced as ( Farhyia). I am 18 years old. I am was born in Saudi Arabia and was raised in Egypt and my family is originally from Somalia. I have 1 sister and 1 brother, and I have 16 step sisters and brothers. I have recently moved from Utica, NY about 6 months ago. I graduate from Thomas R. Proctor high school class of 2019. This is my second semester at RCTC. I haven’t decided on what I really want to become but I know it’s in the medical field.
